Initiator of this website and initiative

My name: Werner Bachmann, born in 1939. I grew up – together with my sister – in Zurich Altstetten. We lived in solid and orderly circumstances. My father was a chauffeur. My mother was mostly Housewife and busy with our upbringing. After three years of secondary school, I completed a four-year apprenticeship as an electrician. But already during my apprenticeship I earned my first extra income as a gas station attendant. This is how my love for cars came about. After successfully completing my apprenticeship, I graduated from the recruiting school as a telephone operator. I then worked for a short time as a plant electrician and supervisor for elevator controls. But after just a few months I became self-employed – I didn’t have the time to pursue my job. In the locksmith’s shop of a colleague, I got a place for the repairs to my VW Beetle, which was already old at the time, which I bought cheaply, reconditioned and then resold. So I started my career as a garage and car dealer.

In between – at the age of 18 I met my wife, with whom I am still married and happy today. We have three children, two girls and a son, who all „did well“. For almost 50 years I have owned and lived with my family and my pets in a beautiful single-family house right on the edge of the forest in Zurich Albisrieden. My wife raised our children. In the meantime we are even the great-grandparents of four magnificent grandchildren who are also “well turned out”. I worked with great enthusiasm as a car dealer, leasing company and garage owner – until I got a serious heart condition in 2012 and therefore had to sell my business. Today, after several operations, I am physically very weak. The same goes for my wife. But what luck: we are still there!

I will start a nonprofit committee with kindred spirits. For reasons of age, I want to hand over the leadership of my initiatives to a strong successor as soon as possible and step back into the second tier – and continue to participate.
